In 1989 a desperate 27 year old woman with chronic headache pain which had started following her adolescent extraction/retraction orthodontic treatment convinced me to try to re-open her previous extraction spaces. I was successful in doing this. Her pain pattern was completely eliminated, her profile dramatically improved, and her life changed. Based on what I learned from this treatment my life changed, and I began re-opening spaces for other people, as well. Re-opening spaces and other approaches to reverse retraction became an increasingly larger part of my practice. Ultimately we had patients from over 30 states and several foreign countries seek treatment to reverse previous retractive orthodontics.
My mission now is to help clinicians identify, diagnose and treat the millions of children and adults who have a breathing disorder.
